Promotion of DEEPICE 15 PhD positions
ANNOUNCEMENT: 15 PhD research positions in ice core-related climate science available within MSCA-ITN DEEPICE project
The DEEPICE project (Research and training network on understanding Deep icE corE Proxies to Infer past antarctiC climatE dynamics), funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 programme (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions - Innovative Training Network) calls for applications for 15 fully funded PhD positions (early-stage researcher, ESR) to be filled between July and October 2021, with attractive complementary training activities and associated research and travel budgets.
DEEPICE aims to train a new generation of scientists working on issues related to past climate change in Antarctica by taking advantage of the unique scientific dynamic of the on-going EU H2020 "Beyond EPICA-Oldest Ice Core" project (2019-2025) which aims at extracting a 1.5 million years old ice core in Antarctica.
The DEEPICE consortium is composed of 10 academic partners and 9 academic and non-academic partners organisations from 10 different countries. It gathers complementary expertise in basic techniques and instrumentation in ice core and snow science, statistics as well as glaciological and climatic modeling. Not only the ESRs will acquire essential core skills in these scientific and technical fields, but they will also develop a wide range of soft skills (e. g. communication and outreach, team-building, networking, management skills) fostering their career perspectives. Thus, after having completed the DEEPICE research and training programs, the 15 ESRs will be fully equipped for engaging in academic and non-academic careers related to glaciology, climate change, geophysics and instrumentation in geosciences.
The candidates applying for these positions can have any nationality but must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date in the country of the institution where they apply.
Besides, to be eligible, the candidates must, at the time of recruitment by the host organization, be in the first four years of their research careers and must not yet have been awarded a title of PhD.
More information on the PhD positions available and on the eligibility criteria of MSCA programme (mobility, experience) can be found on DEEPICE website.
