Scientific challenges exist in evaluating the broad sustainability aspects (e.g., social, environmental, economic) of geotechnical engineering. Specifically, there is a lack of practicable frameworks that track environmental indicators other than carbon dioxide equivalent and that summarise the disparate sustainability aspects in a quantitative framework.
Work description
The candidate will develop a holistic sustainability assessment framework and test its practicability on typical geotechnical works including soil stabilisation. The testing phase will benefit from applying real world data from recent geotechnical projects. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with ongoing research projects on sustainable geotechnics within NGI and academia. Professor Dipanjan Basu (University of Waterloo, Canada) will support the candidate as an academic supervisor.
This full-time position is for a duration of 1 year with the possibility of a contract extension after this period. The position is placed within NGI's interdisciplinary market area "Geotechnics and Environment in Oslo, Norway.
